If you’re looking for a traditional bruiser in the top lane for League of Legends, then Darius is the champion to pick. He is a handful on a bad day, and an unstoppable force on a good one, kind of like Faker at the League of Legends World Championship. His bleed passive is devastating, and you do not want to pick a fight with him in the top lane. So what can you do? Well, pick the best Darius counters in League of Legends, of course! And some entries may surprise you so let’s get started!
There are a couple of ways that you can counter Darius in League of Legends. The first of them is ranged champions such as Jayce, Vayne, or even Yorick to some degree when he has his ultimate active. These are champions that don’t have to get in melee range of Darius to deal damage, outside of Yorick, who is more of a hybrid.
You can also go for melee champions that can build anti-heal, such as an Executioner’s Calling. This is a great item to stop the early healing that Darius can get back with his Q. If Darius is not ahead, he isn’t useful, so getting a melee champion that can rush this item is a great start to taking down Darius.

For Darius players, they do not want to go up against Quinn. She is one of the ranged champions we discussed earlier that will cause Darius all sorts of problems in the laning phase. Quinn is a marksman who plays in the top lane, and her constant auto attacks make it difficult for any melee champion, including Darius, to farm well in the laning phase.
Quinn’s Q blinds enemies hit by it, so not only is Darius going to get poked out of lane, he will also be blind whenever he tries to trade with Quinn. Secondly, her E vaults Quinn back, countering Darius’ E grab. And lastly, her ultimate provides an insane amount of map presence, so even if Darius takes Ghost, he won’t be able to join the fights as quickly as Quinn.

Like Quinn, Aurora is another high mobility champion that Darius struggles with. Her ability to dash away with E whenever Darius gets too close is why many Darius players would rather just ban the champion or pick something else instead of struggling in the lane against Aurora.
As mentioned above, if Darius doesn’t get ahead, he’s rather useless. He and his brother, Draven, are similar in that regard, as Darius’s scaling is not the best, so if he isn’t ahead on items, good luck being useful. Aurora also has a lot of safe poke abilities, meaning you don’t have to get in melee range of Darius to shut him down.

Jayce is a champion who loves to play against Darius. Jayce has two forms, his ranged form and his melee form, both of which can deal with Darius easily. When in ranged form, Jayce can consistently deal damage to Darius with his long-range auto-attacks. His Q + E combo, also known as his Shockblast, is his big damage dealer when in ranged form. Finally, Jayce’s W provides extra attack speed on his next auto attacks. If Darius gets too close, use E for extra movement speed.

When in melee form, Jayce does a deceptive amount of damage. But the main counter to Darius is his E, which not only knocks an enemy champion away but also slows him in the process. That means that if Darius does grab you with his pull, you can E him away from you. There isn’t much that Darius can do in this particular matchup.

If you’re looking for a safe pick in the top lane that outscales Darius while also having a better global presence, you’re going to want to pick Gangplank. GP is the ultimate scaling champion and will naturally earn more gold than Darius due to his passive. Gangplank is great at zoning Darius off the minion waves with his barrels. Some champions have a quick enough auto attack to stop GP from using his barrels, but Darius is not one of those champions.
Once GP gets his item spike, he will carve through Darius’s health. GP’s auto attack passive burns on hit, so if Darius engages with you, don’t be scared to hit him back! And if the lane is even, GP has another ace up his sleeve, his ultimate. Cannon Barrage is a global ultimate, so if your team is fighting elsewhere, you can use it to gain even more of an advantage over Darius.

Although he isn’t played as much in the current League of Legends meta, Heimerdinger is the ultimate counter to Darius. There isn’t much counterplay at all as Darius is defenceless against the constant poke from his turrets. And if Darius does get too close for comfort, you can use E to stun him in place. There’s just too much for Darius to deal with in this lane. From the constant poke to the stun grenades, there’s a reason Darius players do not lock in this champion when Heimerdinger is on Summoners’ Rift.
Heimerdinger can essentially mark Darius at every stage. For example, if your team is trying to take Dragon, you’ll be able to zone Darius, and any other melee, for that matter, with your turrets. Heimerdinger will also force Darius to build defensively rather than go for his natural bruiser build. This will make him even weaker. And if Darius has been forced into a tankier build, you have successfully countered him. Darius does little to no damage without his core items, even if he does have better sustain later in the game.
