If you’re looking for one of the most lane-dominant champions in League of Legends, then look no further than Caitlyn. This Arcane star is one of the more feared champions to go up against, primarily because of her insane poke ability and lane dominance. She will take your towers for free if you’re not careful, so you’re going to need the best champion possible to withstand the onslaught she will bring in the early game. So without further ado, check out the best Caitlyn counters in League of Legends that effectively shut her down.
Caitlyn will always have the range advantage on you, so choosing a long-range champ to try and compensate is generally not a viable idea. You need champions that can close the gap and not let Caitlyn poke from range. Champions like Lucian, who can dash in and out and dodge Caitlyn’s abilities, are good counters to Cait.
Another option is using supports with hard CC. If you can get champions that can lock her down, she will struggle to deal any damage close up. Nautilus is a great example, as he can punish her lack of mobility well.

If you’re looking for a champion in League of Legends that can go pound for pound with Caitlyn, then Draven is your guy. Draven has a lot of early-level damage with his axes and can trade with Caitlyn in the early game, even with her headshot passive. If Caitlyn tries to do extended trades in the first couple of levels, she’s going to lose the majority of her health. League of Legends players underestimate the raw power of Draven in the first couple of levels, and when the Conqueror rune comes online, there’s nothing that this Arcane star can do.
On top of that, Draven’s E can move Caitlyn out of position, meaning if she’s going for her Q or ultimate, Draven can counter it by using his E, which shoves her to the side, potentially setting up Draven’s support to engage since those abilities will now be on cooldown. Also, Draven’s W gives him added movement speed so he can easily dodge her Q, Ultimate, or even sidestep her traps.

With Caitlyn not having the best mobility in League of Legends, Nilah is an excellent champion as she doesn’t need much scaling to take down Cait in the bottom lane. With Caitlyn, you need to have the game in front of you where your range will deal most of the heavy lifting. Whereas for Nilah, the lane is easier for her to play when she is up close and scrapping. Nilah has a gap close with her E, while also being able to dodge Cait’s abilities, such as her Q, or her traps, which would do a lot of damage if you were to be caught in one.

Although Lucian isn’t seen as a traditional counter to Caitlyn in League of Legends, as mentioned earlier, he can use his mobility to his advantage. With a utility support such as a Milio or Nami, Lucian is going to do just fine in this lane. Lucian’s dash plays a significant role in mitigating the aggression that Caitlyn will bring. Whenever Cait goes for her Q, you’ll be able to either dash to the side or diagonally in front of Caitlyn to make the most of his passive, which applies two additional auto attacks after an ability has been used.

Although she will never completely match the range that Caitlyn provides, Ashe is a very good pick against her. She has enough range of her own that she can safely farm, poke, and trade with Caitlyn without being bullied out of the lane. And while Ashe is traditionally seen as a safe pick in LoL, she definitely can trade well with Cait. Her Q, when stacked, does a deceptive amount of damage, even in the early game, and her ultimate will either force Caitlyn to take Cleanse or to tank those ultimate shots.

If you need a ranged champion that can handle Caitlyn, Ziggs is the perfect counter! His Q allows him to wave clear without getting too close to her to trade effectively, and his E provides enough cover if the enemy support is starting to walk up. Once Ziggs has items, he can one-shot Caitlyn with his ultimate and Q. And if you can get Caitlyn out of the lane, you’ll be able to destroy the turret with your Satchel Charge passive. You have probably seen this at the 2025 League of Legends World Championship. Teams will often leave Ziggs in a laneswap to effectively take the tower without much resistance.
