Akali is one of the more dangerous assassins in League of Legends. She is known for her high mechanical plays, especially on the biggest stages such as the League of Legends World Championship. Akali excels in the chaos, which is where most squishy targets are caught out of position, thanks to her quick movements due to her shroud and ultimate ability. But how can you counter this assassin? Well, by choosing the best Akali counters, of course! Check them out below:
The way to get ahead of Akali in League of Legends is to pick champions that can dominate her in the early game. She needs to be locked down; allowing her to move about the lane freely is a recipe for disaster. So you really need some hard CC if you want to beat her in lane.
Firstly, don’t let her get in and out of her shroud; this is where she is the most deadly, as she can keep stacking her energy bar and deal consistent damage. You want a champion that can poke her in lane all the time, as she already has a difficult time farming – her Q is her best form of wave clear, so try and make sure she can’t walk up for free to use that ability.

As said above, you’re going to need hard CC if you want to take down Akali, and Galio fits the bill perfectly in this regard. Galio’s taunt is one of the primary counters to Akali if she is trying to trade with you. If you can taunt her, you can then follow up with your Q and/or passive auto attack, which also does a fair amount of damage. Furthermore, Galio’s W helps with Magic Resistance as Akali is an AP assassin.

In terms of the teamfights, Galio has a much easier time zoning Akali out of fights. You need a champion that can mark where Akali is trying to attack from, and Galio can do this well. His W taunt fits the radius of Akali’s Shroud, so if she gets taunted, the entire team will be able to see where she is and kill her.

Twisted Fate is one of the best Akali counters in League of Legends, as he can stop her from ever engaging in late-game teamfights. Twisted Fate is very good at marking champions; he can zone enemy champions from entering a specific area thanks to his gold card ability, which stuns an enemy champion.
Even if she goes into her Shroud, TF’s Q will be able to expose where she is thanks to its projectiles going in multiple directions. As for the lane itself, TF can consistently harass and poke her out of lane. His blue card also gives back mana, so he will never be out of the lane for long.

Qiyana is another high-damage assassin that does very well against Akali. One of her unique abilities can reveal where invisible enemies are, which is what happens to Akali when she goes into her shroud. Qiyana has enough in her kit to disengage if she needs to, and has good gap closers to chase down Akali. Her ultimate is a game-changer, as Akali will likely be near terrain, where she will be stunned upon impact.

Ahri is one of the best Akali counters lane-wise. Her Q can be used from a significant distance away, and when her passive is up, heal Ahri for a good amount of health. One thing that Akali lacks during the early laning phase is good wave clear, even with her Q and W combo. Ahri’s charm can also manipulate where Akali will be in her shroud, because if you throw it to the left, she is forced to eat the ability or move to the other side, which will give you the advantage.

For Akali players, Ryze is one of the worst champions to go against in the laning phase. Ryze’s E ability will force Akali out of the lane and make her play under the tower. And with Akali not really having any reliable damage to clear the wave, the advantage is going to be with Ryze.
As the game progresses, Ryze outscales Akali and will have too much HP for Akali to burst him in a one-versus-one scenario. Ryze also loves to be in the sidelane, which is where Akali will be weaker as she wants to make an impact in the teamfights rather than isolated one-versus-ones.
