Twitch has become notorious for its strict and often inconsistent punishments and ban policies, and some streamers have faced such severe consequences after breaking Twitch’s rules that they’ve been permanently banned from the streaming platform.
While each of the following streamers was banned permanently from Twitch, some were eventually allowed to return despite the seemingly permanent nature of their bans. Some of the bans, and in some cases their reversals, have both been met with backlash from fans and onlookers alike. Others were broadly supported and considered justified. From DrDisrespect’s allegations to Phant0mlord’s battle against Twitch, these are the most notorious permanent bans delivered by Twitch.
Herschel “DrDisrespect” Beahm IV used to be one of the biggest names on Twitch until he was permanently banned in 2020. The initial reason for the ban was unknown, causing a lot of controversy in the streaming community. Early speculation centered around DrDisrespect having potentially lied to Twitch during contract negotiations about a supposed big-money offer from competing platform Mixer. But the real reason turned out to be very different.
It was later revealed that a Twitch employee had caught DrDisrespect sending suggestive messages to a minor via the streaming platform’s on-site direct messages function, which DrDisrespect initially denied but later admitted to.
Since the permanent ban, DrDisrespect has doubled down on streaming on YouTube and Rumble. While he had a lot of grandiose ideas in the works that never panned out, including an attempt to get back on Twitch, the Doc has remained relatively popular and retains a loyal fan following.
Adin Ross had a permanent Twitch ban rescinded in 2025 after having been booted from Twitch for a total of two long years. This long ban followed eight separate suspensions, some of which were related to his relationship with controversial content creator Andrew Tate. Most recently, Ross was suspended for allegedly performing an offensive hand gesture during a stream. Adin Ross moved to Kick following his Twitch ban, where he became one of the biggest streamers on a platform that was more accepting of his brand of content and would promote his gambling streams.

The decision to walk back Ross’ permanent ban was itself controversial. Reports at the time indicated that numerous Twitch employees had openly questioned CEO Dan Clancy on the reversal after it was announced.
Janelle “indiefoxx” Dagres was known for pushing Twitch’s boundaries when it came to adult content, but she finally took it too far when she received yet another ban for a “wardrobe malfunction” during an ASMR stream in 2022. Before this, indiefoxx had been suspended multiple times for streaming overly revealing content, earning increasing ire from Twitch along the way.
Twitch was notoriously light on punishment at the beginning, causing a lot of controversy in the streaming community as users debated the extent to which the platform’s rules should be rigidly enforced. Some of indiefoxx’s bans only lasted for a few days, and one was for just a single day. This led some to suggest Twitch was favoring certain female content creators, though if indiefoxx was indeed being favored, that favoritism eventually ran out when she was handed a permanent ban.
indiefoxx had her ban lifted in 2023 and is now back on the platform, though with less risque streams. She still uses X and other social platforms to share more mature brands of content.
Paul “Ice Poseidon” Denino became one of the biggest streamers on Twitch after he helped popularized the platform’s IRL brand of content. But this style content is also what eventually led him to get banned in 2017. After sharing which gate he’d be flying out of at an airport during a livestream, a viewer called in a bomb threat and Ice Poseidon was removed from the flight. Twitch stated that the permanent ban was delivered for the streamer sharing sensitive information and potentially putting other people at risk. This has become one of the most memorable such incidents in streaming history.

Ice Poseidon moved to Mixer in 2019, then later to Kick, where he has amassed over 200,000 followers. He still does IRL content, including scavenger hunts in which he sends groups of streamers out to compete for cash prizes.
James “Phant0mlord” Varga was once known for his League of Legends streams before he gained new traction with Counter-Strike: Global Offensive gambling content on Twitch. He was banned in 2016 once it was found out that he owned a website he was promoting via gambling content without disclosing that interest. In response, Phant0mlord sued Twitch for damages, eventually winning a $20,000 judgment in 2021 that was a bit shy of the $100 million he’d initially sued for.
A since-deleted apology video went viral, with many in the content creation community accusing him of manipulation after its release for his including his dog at the start of the video. This started a trend in influencer apology videos being mocked and criticized online, with viewers questioning the authenticity of the apologies.
Popular streamer Darren “IShowSpeed” Watkins was banned from Twitch in 2021 after he made multiple threats towards women while live on stream.

Similar to Adin Ross, IShowSpeed’s ban was revoked two years after it was first put in place. By this point, IShowSpeed had dramatically changed up his content, sharing his traveling journeys around different countries and showing off his athleticism while being pitted against elite, and often famous, athletes. That shift seemed to be enough to earn him a second chance on Twitch.
