AverageJonas is quitting Valorant, here’s why

AverageJonas retires from Valorant

Jonas “AverageJonas” Navarsete retires from Valorant content, and the reason why isn’t what fans expect.

AverageJonas is one of the most prominent figures in the Valorant space, but the streamer already established himself before that. Before his esports career, AverageJonas shone with his vocal talents, working as an opera singer and sharing his vocal talents on YouTube for years. He entered the esports world as a professional Overwatch player in 2016, though his tenure only lasted a short while. His time as a caster for Valorant, which he began doing in 2020, lasted much longer. He also made multiple videos about the competitive shooter, creating some of the most iconic videos for the fandom. All this meant AverageJonas was a beloved figure in the community.

So when AverageJonas announced he was quitting Valorant, many fans were shocked by the choice.

Why did AverageJonas quit Valorant?

AverageJonas explained why he was quitting Valorant, and he cited burnout, health issues, and wanting to play other games.

In August 2024, AverageJoe officially announced his exit from the Valorant scene. The former Valorant caster discussed his plans moving forward, stating his intent to stream Dota 2 while waiting for Marvel Rivals and Deadlock’s full release. He revealed he even got invited to the private playtest for Deadlock by Valve. Given the overlap of Marvel Rivals and Deadlock with Valorant esports, it could prove a fruitful transition.

“I’ve decided that this is the new beginning I need, and I will be completely quitting Valorant on all my platforms,” said AverageJonas in the update video.

Even so, the streamer understands if many of his fans can’t come along for the ride. After all, as he admits, his time with Valorant was one of the most fruitful and fulfilling parts of his long career. However, AverageJonas realized he had lost much of his passion for the game. His content no longer met the standards he once aspired to.

“I don’t want you guys to just watch a sad streamer cuz I do really think that my content is a lot better if I am happy,” said AverageJonas bluntly about his own content.

The overall vibe from AverageJonas is one of cautious optimism, and many fans have expressed support for the creator’s decision.
