Extraction shooter Arc Raiders has hit over 460k concurrent players on Steam as the extraction shooter celebrates unrivaled success in the genre.
The game which was released on Oct. 30 has gone from strength to strength, before breaking the 460k concurrent players mark on Nov. 9, this past Sunday.
The surge made the game the fourth most-played game on Steam, breezing past Battlefield 6 and nipping at the heels of perennial top-3 PUBG, Dota 2, and Counter-Strike 2. The extract shooter has won the hearts of gamers as its more slow-paced take on extraction shooters and great community has meant that players traditionally put off by the genre have taken the plunge.
Earlier, we reported on the fact Arc Raiders was a top streaming game, and the most streamed game on KICK. That popularity has only increased, with the shooter dethroning nearly all others in the top rung of Steam in a genre that’s traditionally fairly closed off to new players.

What’s more this surge of players seems likely to create some fireworks when Escape from Tarkov, seen as the genre-leader of extraction shooters, finally comes to Steam on Nov. 15. The game had been hosted on creator, Battlestate Games, own platform, but is finally coming to Steam later this month. With that move, it’s likely many who were put off by Tarkov’s high price point and lack of Steam support could try the game out.It also means that this weekend, both of these games will go head to head. And with the more casual-friendly Escape from Duckov also in the mix, it’s likely to push the combined player count of extraction shooters on the platform even higher.
As Arc Raiders continues its meteoric rise, its record-breaking player count, the genre as a whole is being brought into the spotlight. The game’s accessible yet tactical approach has clearly resonated with a broad audience, redefining what players expect from the genre. And this weekend will be make-or-break for both titles.
