Controversial content creator Kaitlyn “Amouranth” Siragusa just had her ASMR channel banned from YouTube, but why?
Amouranth has been blurring the lines and testing the guidelines of YouTube and Twitch since the OnlyFans model has been on the platforms. This includes starting the hot tub meta on Twitch and skirting around Twitch’s nudity rules by wearing a bathing suit inside a blow-up pool in her office. She’s also become very well known for her suggestive ASMR streams, which include her wearing tight yoga pants or using eye-raising gestures and techniques.
Have those ASMR sessions cost Amouranth her YouTube channel?
On August 20, Amouranth took to X to explain why her ASMR YouTube channel was banned. She claimed that it was “removed without warning.” This happened after she posted a video where she was “just brushing the mic with a paintbrush.” But it looks like YouTube didn’t see it that way.
“Hey YouTube, I uploaded an ASMR and my whole channel suddenly got removed without warning. I was just brushing the mic with a paintbrush,” said Amouranth on X.
YouTube actually responded to the distraught content creator. At first, the support team sounded sympathetic and told Amouranth they were “sorry to hear.” The team explained that a channel termination can happen “in a single case of severe abuse,” which includes pornography. After being given Amouranth’s ASMR YouTube channel, the team wrote a bit more formally.
“Our policy team confirmed the termination was correct,” said YouTube support.
The tweet then shared a link to YouTube’s Nudity & Sexual Content policy, confirming it was indeed due to the channel’s provocative nature.
Amouranth’s fans reacted with anger, calling out YouTube for banning her channel over rubbing a paintbrush against a mic. Others applauded the platform, however, for removing suggestive content funneled to OnlyFans accounts off the site. But fans fought back that this content was “allowed for years,” questioning why it was suddenly a problem.
YouTube has not confirmed if Amouranth’s ASMR channel will be permanently banned or when it could potentially come back.
Amouranth’s ASMR channel was created in 2014 and has grown to nearly 750,000 subscribers since then. It also had over 76 million views at the time it was removed. ASMR has been a very popular category on YouTube and other video and streaming platforms, but Amouranth has often been accused of taking things a bit too far with her purposeful camera angles, revealing outfits, and licking microphones.
YouTube hasn’t publicly clarified how long Amouranth’s YouTube ban is or if the channel ban is permanent. But the use of the term “terminated” is a bit concerning and hints at it not being irreversible. So far, Amouranth hasn’t further tired to fight her case. She may be too busy with other pressing matters, like her stalker being released from prison.
