The Lunar New Year may still be months away, but it’s never too early to get League of Legends’ Lunar Beast skins to prepare.
Riot’s 2021 Ox Squad is set in a universe where a team of champions must lead the arriving Lunar Beast on a parade to both protect the city and celebrate the new year. Ideally, the squad tames the beast and ushers in a prosperous year. Not all is fun and games, however, as a past Ox Squad member makes clear. Though most of the outfits may be locked in the legacy vault, some are set to make reappearances in the mythic shop in the coming patches.
Here are all the LoL Lunar Beast skins, both locked and upcoming.
Who better to lead the Ox Squad than a literal minotaur? Lunar Beast Alistar may be a little prone to anger and wanting to trample his more stubborn teammates, but he just wants to make sure that the Lunar New Year goes off without a hitch. Is that too much to ask for?
In Chinese culture, the birth of twins is often thought of as a fortuitous event. especially when it’s a mixed-gender set. Alune is not only a twin but the daughter of the Bull God, and she’s more than happy to act as an extension of her older brother.
The male Bull God twin Aphelios knows that he comes from godly origins and prefers to keep his head down. That way, fewer of his squadmates will ask why he’s deferring to old methods of worship. It isn’t like he doesn’t still get his job done. The sun to Alune’s moon, Aphelios is content to play the hitman to her seer.
Alune in Runeterra is a moon seer, but isn’t her own playable champion outside of her connection to Aphelion.
Annie works best when she’s working tech and recon, and her Lunar Beast skin shows that she hasn’t lost her flair for fire if need be. Maybe she can’t incinerate or disintegrate the yearly Lunar Beast, but she can certainly help keep it on the path. Plus, Annie can always call Tibbers for help.
Regardless of universe, Darius brings a certain imposing presence that doesn’t always endear him to his teammates. Still, he is a steadfast and loyal friend to many. One might just not want to be on his bad side.
Fiora has always been fierce and up for a challenge, making her a perfect fit to help lead the Lunar Parade. While she may get frustrated at times with the inferred lack of seriousness of her team members, it can’t be said that she doesn’t care.
Fiora also has a prestige Lunar Beast skin that will be hitting the mythic shop in August and shows her more energized than ever.
Though it almost prevented him from joining, Jarvan IV’s stubbornness makes him well-suited to be in the Ox Squad. His business background and Demacian standards help to maintain order and structure, which is especially helpful when temperatures run hot. Finally, a place where Jarvan IV can meet his father’s expectations while also fighting.
Not every member of the Ox Squad is there out of a sense of duty. Some had to be persuaded by the Bull God himself with the promise of fame and glory. As long as Miss Fortune can strut her stuff and earn applause, who she’s strutting for doesn’t matter so much.
Viego is a past member of the Ox Squad. After deciding to defeat the Lunar Beast rather than lead it, he watched as it consumed his wife and squadmates. Since then, Viego has followed a harrowed path of bitterness directed outward. He did nothing wrong, of course, but the current Ox Squad?
Only Fiora’s Prestige Lunar Beast skin is set to return to the mythic shop, but there could be more drops upcoming. Given the popularity of lunar-themed skins, League developers and designers have an easy way to gain a lot of favor.
