At this point, there are an incredible number of Fortnite seasons. How many seasons are there in Fortnite? When did they happen? How did we get from Season 1 to the current season? If these are your questions, you’ve come to the right place.
Chapter 1 Season 1, which was simply Season 1 at the time, was the first season and the shortest. It gave way to Season 2 and so on and so forth until Season X, which marked the first-ever chapter change. After Season X, Chapter 2 began. No other chapter has lasted 10 seasons.
Chapter 2 ran for eight seasons before the island literally flipped over for Chapter 3, which was a very short chapter: four seasons. After those four seasons, Chapter 4 had four main seasons before Season OG, which sent players back to Chapter 1. That was a huge success in keeping Fortnite from dying and reviving the player base.
After that, Fortnite entered a new era with Chapter 5. This coincided with the arrival of Rocket Racing, Festival, and LEGO modes. It also added weapon attachments, so it was a major shift. Chapter 5 ran for four seasons as well before Season Remix, which was the return to Chapter 2. Then, players were in Chapter 6, which ran for four seasons.
Following a second mini-season, Chapter 7 arrived, catapulting the game back into regular gameplay instead of The Simpsons-themed. It is currently unclear how many seasons will unfold before Chapter 8 arrives, but four or five seasons is a safe guess. Many of the most recent chapters have lasted four seasons, though Chapter 6 added in two mini-seasons to lengthen it.

Chapter 7 Season 1 started off with a bang. While the map went back to normal and was not animated, several things were changed. In the end event of Chapter 6, the battle bus was destroyed, killing the bus driver. Gamers had to collect parts to fix the bus, but until then, they had to surf a tsunami wave onto the island instead of dropping in. The storm also changed from a circle to other random shapes.
OG Mode arrived in Chapter 6, which was the result of a lot of pleading by the players. When Season OG arrived, everyone came out of the woodwork and remembered why they loved the game. In turn, Epic Games made it a permanent mode. Chapter 6 Season 1 added Godzilla as a boss and had a Japanese theme.
In Chapter 6 Season 2, everything was crime-based, adding a new wrinkle to the gameplay. By collecting unique currency from bank heists, players could buy Exotic and Mythic weapons, giving them a huge leg up. This season brought back Midas and introduced Big Dill.
The first Mini Season in Chapter 6 was for Star Wars. Fortnite always celebrates May 4 as Star Wars Day with an event, but they gave them several weeks with a battle pass this time, even adding all Star Wars weapons to the loot pool.
Chapter 6 Season 3 was another superhero season (there have been a lot of these) with Superman as the biggest character. It focused on battling demons and trying to find utopia in Fortnite, though that obviously didn’t end up happening quite like that.
Chapter 6 Season 4 is all about a war with the bugs, so much so that the island needed reinforcements in the form of the Power Rangers and some Spartans from Halo. All the locations, items, and more are centered on being able to take out the bugs that are running rampant.
For the second time, a mini, themed season arrived. This time, The Simpsons took over the island, actually transforming the map into Springfield. Several Simpsons characters and items arrived, too, and eventually, the game transitioned back into Chapter 7, and the island was a little more normal.

The change from Chapter 4 to Chapter 5 was a landmark event. It needed days of downtime, and it totally changed the game forever. You could make the argument that the pre-Chapter 5 update game is a different one from the current one.
With Chapter 5 came Rocket Racing, LEGO, and Festival. Of course, Creative mode remains a huge piece of the puzzle with all sorts of different games like Murder Mystery, Only Up, and Towers.
Every single season in Fortnite represents a brand-new change. Each one attempts to be distinct from its predecessor, and a lot of times, that really works.
Chapter 3 introduced sprinting and sliding as well as mantling. Chapter 6 also added some new mechanics to the mix, such as ledge jumping, wall kicking, scrambling, and barrel rolling. Chapter 7 changed the dropping system temporarily and adjusted the storm.
With every new season, the map changes a little bit. Most of the time, a couple of new POIs are added, and landmarks change to better fit the theme of the season. There are holdover POIs that stay even when their theme is over, though.
Fortnite seasons are just an arbitrary amount of time devoted to the current theme, map, and characters in the game.
New seasons mean new content, so there are new challenges, new storylines, and new characters every single time. Upcoming content, teams and collabs have been the subjects of Fortnite leaks.
The theme changes every time, too. The current theme is the war on bugs. In Chapter 6 Season 2, it was lawless. Chapter 5 Season 4 it was Marvel. In Chapter Season 3, it was wasteland. Chapter 2 Season 7 was a war with aliens.

As of November 1, we are officially in Fortnite Chapter 6 Miniseason 2. This is The Simpsons-themed. It’s a mini-season just like the Star Wars season earlier was, so it’s not a full season that will last months. The Star Wars season lasted just 36 days, so a little over a month. We can expect this Simpsons season to last as long as well, but we don’t know yet exactly how long it will last. It is expected to last 27 days, but that’s not official and is subject to change.
Fortnite seasons typically last about 70-90 days on average. However, there are some that have gone for nearly 120 days, and other seasons have fallen short of 70 days. Special seasons, like Season OG in Chapter 3, are much shorter, but the normal seasons usually come close to 70 days.
The new season began on November 29, 2025.
The current season ends on March 4, 2026.
Fortnite Battle Royale has been out since October 24, 2017.
Since its release there have been 39 seasons.
