Everybody loves a school AU, and Riot gave League of Legends fans a glimpse of Runeterra High School drama with Academy universe skins.
The Academy series features League of Legends champions in high school-themed outfits, whether as students or school staff. Given the typical age range of the average League of Legends player, there’s an appeal to seeing cool champions in school outfits. As of 2024, the Academy Universe features six distinct skins with four students and two school staff. Riot hasn’t returned to the Academy series since 2015, likely due to the Battle Academia line filling that particular niche in modern times.
Still, the Academy skins are on the cheap side with none going past 975 RP, so here’s a list of what to expect when League of Legends champs go back to school.
NOTICE FROM THE DEAN: Ahri is henceforth suspended from Academy grounds for behavior including (but not limited to): use of her phone during class, use of her phone during disciplinary hearings about her phone, and escaping disciplinary hearings about her phone.
Get used to seeing “henceforth suspended” because that’s the overarching theme for each student. Academy Ahri fittingly fills the role of “too cool for school” popular girl who can’t keep her eyes away from her phone. There is also a Chroma variant for the Ahri-versary.
NOTICE FROM THE DEAN: Darius is henceforth suspended from Academy grounds for behavior including (but not limited to) stuffing students into lockers, possession of dangerous weapons on school property, brawling, fighting, scuffling, fisticuffing, and dunking on fellow classmates during gym class.
As with many of his skins, Academy Darius still retains his classic massive, spiky pauldrons in an otherwise normal League of Legends school uniform, befitting his bully status.
NOTICE FROM THE DEAN: Ekko is henceforth suspended from Academy grounds for behavior including (but not limited to) illegal use of chemistry equipment, illegal use of Academy electronics, splitting time streams to skip class, and vandalism of athletics department property.
Academy Ekko’s delinquency fits his time powers perfectly, as the skin showcases a “chrono cricket bat” alongside afterimages of him probably working on illegal chemicals.
NOTICE FROM THE DEAN: Vladimir is henceforth suspended from Academy grounds for behavior including (but not limited to) extreme snobbery, hiring other students to finish his exams and attend his classes, and putting an unnecessary strain on our janitorial department after “that” incident.
Academy Vladimir channels his inner Draco Malfoy with the Academy skin at his smuggest (and most “rich kid energy) yet, complete with a posh scarf.
ATTENTION ALL STUDENTS: Concerning the recent upswing in vandalism and general troublemaking, it has come to my attention these behaviors may be intended to draw the personal attention of our headmistress. The dean reminds students that such encounters can be fatal, and encourages them to re-read the Academy code of conduct.
There’s always a teacher every student is crushing on, but Headmistress Fiora may be the first to crush students. Under her boot heel, that is. Headmistress Fiora also has multiple Chroma variants.
TO ALL STUDENTS OF RUNIC SIGILS 101: Professor Ryze is on sabbatical to promote the most recent edition of his coursebook, Runic Sigils & Hidden Magic [17th edition]. A substitute lecturer will be provided, and out-of-date coursebooks must be replaced at the current cover price of seven thousand dollars.
Finally, no curriculum in Runeterra is complete without a class on Runes. Hilariously, even the “best archmage in the world” needs to pay the bills as a teacher.
All League of Legends Academy skins are available for purchase in-game.
The Academy skins bring fresh flair to champions, each fitting into unique roles, as detailed in all champions in League of Legends divided into roles.
