ALGS Champion SangJoon Announces Retirement from Apex Legends

Apex Legends Sangjoon Focusing On His Game

Han “SangJoon” Sang-joon, one of the most well-known faces in the Apex Legends Global Series (ALGS), has officially said he is leaving the pro scene. The South Korean star, who first really got noticed back in 2021, confirmed the main reason behind this decision is that he must soon begin his required military service. His words gave a clear and emotional closure to a career that already made a strong impact on the competitive Apex Legends stage.

The Retirement Announcement

In his translated message, SangJoon spoke openly on why he is stepping away. “I’ve decided to retire from the next Pro League. There are many reasons for this, but the biggest one is that I have to enlist in the military soon,” he said. His words were emotional as he continued, “I’ve said many times that I’m retiring, but this time it’s true, so I’m really sad that I won’t be able to see you all. Thanks for your support. I was able to go to the playoffs and win, which is really great. Thank you for everything.”

With this declaration, it became certain SangJoon will not be competing in any more Apex Legends tournaments, including the 2025 Split 2 Pro League, the Challenger Circuits through August to October, or even the ALGS 2026 Championship in January.

SangJoon steps away as one of ALGS’s most respected names. The 2024 championship run especially will be remembered as a peak moment in Apex Legends history. Though his career is paused because Ff military duty, his status as a champion and MVP ensures his name remains among the defining players of the era.

SangJoon’s time in Apex Legends esports saw him wearing the jerseys of several big organizations, most recognized being Crazy Raccoon and REJECT. His biggest career highlight came in 2024 while he was with REJECT, where he helped lead the squad to victory at the ALGS Split 1 Playoffs. After starting only in fifth place in the group phase, the roster made an impressive push in the Finals, securing big wins in games two and eight. REJECT closed at the top with 86 points and $300,000 prize money. For his standout performance, SangJoon was awarded the MVP of that tournament, confirming just how vital his role was in achieving the title.

During 2025, he represented Crazy Raccoon, showing the same steadiness that had already made his name. The team placed eighth out of thirty in the ALGS APAC North Split 1 Pro League and earned a spot in the Mid-Season Playoffs. Their run there was shorter, ending in 32nd place with $4,500 earned. Still, SangJoon’s reputation as a trusted competitor did not get weakened by the result.
