2019 brought gamers a small title by the name of A Plague Tale: Innocence. The game focuses on a sibling duo in the 14th century looking to escape from soldiers of the French Inquisition and the spread of the black plague through hordes of rats.
The game performed moderately as it reached a million copies sold a year after the initial release. All eyes turned to the future as a sequel is hitting in October, and a new gameplay trailer gives the inside scoop on what to expect.
Viewer beware, if you don’t like rats, look away.
Set a few months after the events of the first game, A Plague Tale: Requiem sees Amicia, Hugo and company safely reaching the south. They enjoy a brief spell of peace until Hugo’s affliction arises which in turn sees the return of the rat plague.
Amicia and Hugo then set on an adventure in order to discover the meaning behind the latter’s dreams and possibly a cure.
Following the events of the first game, Amicia has become a hardened survivor. Requiem will see her toolset expand as she fights for the survival of both her and Hugo.
Expect to craft items to keep the hordes at bay. Also, expect to see more variety between stealth and action in the sequel.
Conversely, Hugo will see his abilities grow as his affliction progresses.
The trailer shows off a few snippets of his unique skillset such as an “x-ray” mode or controlling the rat hordes. However, the more he uses his abilities, the greater the toll it takes on him.
Amicia and Hugo will also receive plenty of aid from a variety of companions. Their journey is a long one, and it’ll take everything they have to succeed.
A Plague Tale: Requiem is set to launch October 18, 2022.
