These tips and tricks will help you reach the top alone in Solos Takeover, the newest limited-time mode in Apex Legends Season 21.
After five years of requests, developer Respawn Entertainment has finally heard the call and added a solo mode to Apex Legends. The new Solos Takeover is the premier game mode in Season 21, making Apex feel similar to its battle royale competitors. However, not every tactic transfers perfectly over to the lone wolf experience. From altered healing mechanics to broken passive, there are plenty of things to worry about. At least leavers aren’t one of them.
Switching from years of trios to a solo mode may take some adjusting even for veteran players, so if fans want to hit the ground running, we’ve got some tips and tricks to make the most of Solos Takeover.
Respawn changed a ton of mechanics for Solos Takeover, and the looting changes will be the first thing many players notice. Weapons now come pre-equipped with attachments, though players can swap them out if needed. This is meant to compensate for only having one inventory and two eyes to spot gear. However, it also means that players can possibly get fully equipped in a matter of seconds.
The mechanic also synergizes with certain looting abilities. Loba’s passive, for example, lets players skip over the junk and only collect top-tier guns as soon as they land, and higher-tier guns tend to come with rare attachments. One building can often be all you need to start skirmishing. It’s better to grab whatever you find and get the drop on anyone still searching for an HCOG. Remember these tips when you first touch down in Solos Takeover.
Solos Takeover changes quite a few mechanics in Apex Legends, and many of them outright reward players for going in guns blazing. The first is the healing mechanic, where players get their HP refilled right after downing an enemy. The heal is slow, but it will completely refill the bar as long as the killer doesn’t take damage. Abuse this right after the drop when the risk of a second opponent is much lower.
The second mechanic is an automatic respawn, which triggers whenever a player dies for the first time during the initial four rounds. When they die, they will spawn back into the arena after a short break. The negligible penalty for an early death means Legends can risk it all in the early game with little risk for lots fo reward. Note that if players don’t use their respawn, they get an EVO refill at the start of the fifth round.
Players can only rely on themselves in Solos Takeover, and we have a few tips for how to choose wisely. Many support-oriented characters simply aren’t up to snuff in Solos. For example, Lifeline, Newcastle, Mirage, and Conduit, can’t even enable their passives in Solos. Consider how a Legend’s abilities and passive work with teammates before snapping them on the select screen. Remember that every kill grants a big healing boost.
Instead, Solos Takeover players should opt for single-target attackers that can exploit the self-healing mechanic. Revenant is an ideal Legends for Solos Takeover, as he can track down lone targets, gear up even faster, and boost his own health pool. Bangalore is another solid option, as she excels at defending from multiple angles and rushing down lone stragglers.
