The LEC has announced on June 28 that the 2022 LEC summer finals will take place in Malmö, Sweden on September 10-11, 2022. The event marks the first road show for the event since the 2019 LEC summer finals in Athens, Greece.
The announcement marks the first time that the LEC finals will unfold outside of Berlin, Germany where the studios are located since the coronavirus pandemic started in 2020.
Riot Games also provided fans with a way to book their tickets in advance, as they will be available July 1st on the Malmö Arena website.
“We are absolutely thrilled to announce that we will be hosting our 2022 Summer Finals in Malmö, Sweden,” said the head of League of Legends Esports in EMEA, Maximilian “MAXtheX” Schmidt on LoL Esports.
“Being the first roadshow we’ve hosted away from our Berlin studio in three years, we can’t wait to give the fans an unforgettable experience. We’re pleased to be working with the City of Malmö again and look forward to bringing the breathtaking atmosphere to their city.”
Before the pandemic, the LEC announced that the 2020 LEC spring finals would have taken place in the Malmö Arena as well. However, the health situation changed and stopped large-scale live events from happening until 2022.
The last time a road show occurred, G2 Esports prevailed over Fnatic in a nail-biting 3-2 series at Athens, Greece in the 2019 summer finals.
